Randomized Controlled Trial for Embryo Selection Based on Metabolomics vs Morphological Selection

In this study, we will collect embryo culture media on day 5 of vitro fertilization (IVF) culture, prior to vitrification and embryo transfer for testing via Metabolomic screening. Metabolomics is a new, non-invasive method of embryo selection which involves testing discarded embryo culture media for analytes secreted by the developing embryo. These analytes can be used to determine the implantation potential, and ploidy, of the embryo. Study patients will be randomized 2:1 into control and treatment groups, respectively. The control group will have the best blastocyst selected for transfer based on morphological assessment alone (standard of care). The treatment group will have the best blastocyst selected for transfer based on metabolomics (experimental test) and morphology together. The primary endpoint will be ongoing pregnancy rates, comparing treatment and control groups. The secondary endpoint will be the Positive Predictive Value (PPV) and Negative Predictive Value (NPV) of metabolomics. The result of the metabolomic analysis of culture media coming from embryos in the control group will be used to compare the clinical outcome (ongoing pregnancy) to the test's prediction and calculate PPV and NPV.
