Digital Health Supported Weight Management Intervention Delivered by Community Health Workers Among Public Housing Residents

This research will test the efficacy of a three-group randomized trial o: a mHealth group, mHealth+Community Health Worker (CHW) support, versus control group on weight outcomes. We plan to enroll residents of Boston's public housing developments into this trial. Major activities will include: Screening/enrollment/baseline assessment activities Randomization at the individual level to 1 of 3 study groups: mHealth group: 12 month text messaging program about diet and physical activity behavioral goals mHealth+Community Health Worker (CHW) support: same as mHealth group + month behavioral phone counseling by a CHW control: assessments only 6-month and 12-month follow up assessment activities Results from this trial will be used to understand whether our intervention approach is efficacious in bringing about weight change. Trial procedures were informed a pilot study previously conducted by the investigators. The findings are expected to inform future health promotion efforts among residents in public housing developments.
