Healthy, consenting and informed patients of both gender under 55 years of age with apical periodontitis will be enrolled as cases. Healthy, consenting and informed patients of both gender under 55 years of age with apical periodontitis will be enrolled as cases. Healthy, consenting and informed patients of both gender under 55 years of age without apical periodontitis will be enrolled as control. The study has been designed to assess the serum level of lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), TNF-?, IL-1?, IL-6, IL-8 and the platelet factor 4 (PF4) by ELISA assay. PF4 will be dosed also in platelets.
