Feasibility of a Tele-game-based Exercise (Tele-exergame) Program to Prevent Deconditioning in Hospitalized COVID-19 Patients

Background: Conventional face-to-face in-hospital mobility program (MP) is challenging for COVID-19 patients because of its associated risk of infection to hospital staff, staffing shortages as well as indirect risk of exposure to other hospitalized patients. Exergames are digital or web-based games that use body movement to promote physical activity and generally involve strength, balance, and flexibility exercises. The tele-exergame MP, developed by the team, uses a remotely supervised and game-based approach, which helps to increase patient motivation and engagement in a cognitively demanding exercise program. Objectives: To demonstrate the feasibility, acceptability, and effectiveness of the Tele-Exergame mobility program in COVID-19 or PUI (persons under investigation), during hospitalization and examine post-hospitalization outcomes. Restoring Normal Sagittal Thoracic Posture Improves Management Outcomes in Patients With Chronic Nonspecific Neck Pain

Because changes in sagittal thoracic alignment have been reported to alter the mechanical loading of the cervical spine and decreased thoracic mobility has been identified as one of the predictors for neck and shoulder pain , it makes sense that thoracic articular treatment improves local kinematics and simultaneously neck pain improves. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a multimodal program, with thoracic hyper kyphosis rehabilitation using the Denneroll™ thoracic traction orthosis , applied to participants with chronic non-specific neck pain and thoracic hyper-kyphosis.

Sex-specific Determinants of Early-phase Recovery From Skeletal Muscle Disuse

This project is a 2-phase, randomized clinical trial that includes 7 days of unilateral leg disuse (Phase 1), immediately followed by 14 days of bilateral leg rehabilitation (Phase 2). The investigators will recruit cohorts of healthy middle-aged men and women to address their aims: Demonstrate the sex-specific effects of skeletal muscle disuse (Phase 1) Identify key molecular determinates of susceptibility of skeletal muscle atrophy (Phase 1) Map the early, sex-specific molecular time-course of rehabilitation (Phase 2) Determine if disused and healthy muscle respond similarly to exercise (Phase 2) Healthy, middle-age men and post-menopausal women (50-65 years) will be recruited from the greater Houston/Galveston area. This under-represented research demographic demonstrate few negative metabolic or phenotypic signs of advanced age, but are at increased risk of being hospitalized and experiencing accelerated loss of lean mass and muscle function that parallels a much older population. The goal of this study is to characterize phenotypic and molecular skeletal muscle changes in middle-aged men and women during critical periods of disuse and rehabilitation and ultimately direct the development of targeted and effective prevention and treatment strategies.

Improving Stroke Motor Control With Non-invasive Brain Stimulation and Functional Electrical Stimulation

This pilot study for stroke patients with chronic upper limb hemiplegia will examine the effects of non-invasive brain stimulation and neuromuscular electrical stimulation on hand motor control and corticospinal excitability. Specifically, this study will investigate the effects of timing and delivery of tDCS in conjunction with contralaterally controlled functional electrical stimulation.

More and more people are surviving after receiving life support for respiratory failure in the intensive care unit, but these patients often experience problems with depression and physical functioning that lead to reduced quality of life. There is a lack of treatment for these patients, with past research suggesting that treatment may be more successful if mental and physical health are addressed at the same time. This research evaluates whether a therapy delivered via telephone and home visits, combining treatment for depression and physical rehabilitation, is feasible and might help patients recover.

This pilot trial aims to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a technology-based intervention for cognitive-motor training in rehabilitation clinics with geriatric, neurological and cardiac patients. The primary objective of this pilot study is to evaluate the feasibility of exergame-based cognitive-motor training in in-patient rehabilitation settings. The secondary objective of this pilot trial is to evaluate the effectiveness of an expanded rehabilitation treatment (combining exergame training with conventional care) on physical and cognitive functioning in different patient groups.

Physical Function of Older Citizens During Municipality-based Rehabilitation

When choosing outcomes to assess rehabilitation's effect or progress, it is essential to consider the constructs being measured and their value to the patient and the psychometric properties. Choosing an outcome that reflects all aspects of International Classification levels of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is challenging, especially in heterogeneous groups. However, it is important to know the psychometric properties as this gives important knowledge on how to interpret results and, consequently, how this can inform the patient's care. The Short Musculoskeletal Function Assessment (SMFA) questionnaire can reflect differences in patients' functional status with a broad range of disorders, like for elderly citizens undergoing municipality-based rehabilitation. Nevertheless, since there is no golden standard to measure rehabilitation outcomes, construct validity needs to be established to investigate how scores of SMFA can be related to measures on all levels of ICF. Therefore, this study has three main objectives: To investigate how scores of the SMFA questionnaire are related to measures on different ICF levels To describe the characteristics of older citizens starting municipality-based rehabilitation on all ICF levels To investigate predictor variables of upper- and lower extremity strength

New Technologies in the Management of Lumbopelvic Pain

Lumbopelvic pain represents one of the leading causes of disability and pain in the world population. It is estimated that 84% of the world's population will suffer from lumbar pelvic pain in their lifetime. This high prevalence causes it to be classified as a public health problem. Traditional primary care measures have failed to reduce the prevalence, recurrences and costs of this pathology. In the search for treatments focused on reducing public spending, the concept of tele-rehabilitation appears. It is a tool, via telematics, that provides knowledge on rehabilitation and education in neurobiology of pain, demonstrated in cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. It has been suggested that the use of this instrument could help improve the patient's quality of life at the biopsychosocial level.

The Child in Context Intervention Study

Children with acquired brain injury (ABI) often struggle with complex impairments, including cognitive (such as memory and attention), social, emotional and behavioral challenges. There is a lack of evidence-based knowledge about rehabilitation for children with ABI in the chronic phase. The current study, the CICI Study, is a randomized controlled trial (RCT) directed towards children with ABI and their families in the chronic phase. The study will be conducted in close collaboration with schools and local health care providers. The CICI Study focuses on the child's and parents' individually identified target outcome areas and rehabilitation goals. The intervention aims to enhance everyday functioning in the home and school environment by attaining rehabilitation goals in areas noted as challenging by the participants. The efficacy of the CICI-intervention will be measured in terms of goal attainment, burden of brain injury related symptoms, parenting self-efficacy, unmet health care needs, as well as several aspects of child, parent and family functioning.

Improving Health Outcomes With Resource Facilitation

The purpose of this research is to test a service the investigators of the study believe may increase quality of life after brain injury and reduce the level of disability that might be associated with that injury. This intervention is called "Resource Facilitation" and involves working one on one with a brain injury specialist. This specialist is called a "Resource Facilitator" and will work with participants to help set and achieve their own goals along with a team of professionals that specialize in this kind of injury. If randomly assigned to the Resource Facilitation group, participants will receive Resource Facilitation free of charge. If not, they will be assigned to a control group and will not receive the intervention. However, both groups will receive calls every three months. During these calls, a research assistant will collect data about each participant's recovery and progress. If assigned to the Resource Facilitation group, participants may also receive study information in the mail if research assistants are unable to reach participants via telephone.

Benefits of Observing Point-light Displays in Postoperative Rehabilitation of the Total Knee Prosthesis.

The LOARAL project concerns patients who have undergone total knee arthroplasty to treat symptomatic osteoarthritis. Patient will be divided into two groups: a control group where patients will do standard rehabilitation and an experimental group where patients will do standard rehabilitation associated with the judgement of point-light display. The aim of this study is to validate the use of point-light display for the Rehabilitation of patients with a totalarthroplasty of the knee.

The aim of the study; It is a comparison of the effectiveness of aerobic exercises and postural stabilization exercises that are structured to reduce the pain severity, fatigue, sleep problems and anxiety-depression levels of patients who are being followed up with a diagnosis of FMS, and to increase the duration of physical activity and quality of life.

Investigation of the Effect of Different Term Stretching Exercise on Muscle Elasticity in Two Different Muscle Groups

In the literature, the evidence regarding the effects of different static stretching times on elasticity is very limited, and the evidence on the effects on flexibility varies. Although 10 to 30 seconds of static stretching is said to be effective, studies on which duration is effective for which muscle group are quite limited. Based on these, the aim of this study is to examine the effects of stretching exercises of different periods on muscle elasticity to be applied to thin and thick muscle groups. In order to evaluate its effectiveness, assessment of evaluation of muscle flexibility, active-passive range of motion were being applied.

EFFECTIVENESS OF LOW-LEVEL LASER THERAPY

During rotator cuff tear healing stages, there are complex interactions between a variety of tissue growth factors and cells, ultimately resulting in tissue that is markedly different from that of normal, uninjured tendon. Hence, there is a strong drive to investigate the role of potential therapies in the form of biological augments that may restore the pathologic tissue to a near normal physiological state. In this context, low-level laser therapy (LLLT) may be an effective choice in the treatment of nonoperative small and medium-sized rotator cuff tears (RCT). To the best of our knowledge, there is no randomized controlled study investigating the effects of the LLLT in patients with a RCT size not exceeding 3 cm. Therefore, the aim of the current study is to investigate all the possible effects of the LLLT in terms of functional status, pain-free mobility, and quality-of-life.

tDCS Response Prediction Using EEG in Stroke

Patients with chronic stroke (>6 months after stroke) having unilateral upper limb hemiparesis will be recruited. Patients will maintain their usual inpatient rehabilitation including occupational therapy. At baseline (T0) and after 2weeks of enrollment (T1), Fugl-Meyer assessment (FMA) will be assessed at each time. And patients with the changes of FMA between T0 and T1 less than 3 points will be finally recruited. The enrolled patients will receive additional 30-min cathodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) over the contralesional motor cortex for 10 consecutive weekdays, with maintaining their usual conventional rehabilitation. At T1 and immediately after 10-seessions of tDCS (T2) and 1 month after completing 10-tDCS session (T3), FMA, Actional Research Arm Test (ARAT), Box and Block Test (BBT) and electroencephalography (EEG) were measured.
