They will demonstrate the feasibility of subgroup based adaptive assignment of treatments, electronic consenting, and outcomes data capture at the point of care using the EMR. They will identify the most effective treatments for common neurological disorders and seek replication by the NPBRN.

Migraine and CVD Risk in Women

The primary goal of this study is to test the effects of a high-fat, high-carbohydrate mixed meal on candidate modulators of cardiovascular disease risk (inflammation, vascular reactivity, sympathetic nervous system tone, and response to pain) in young adult women with migraine compared with healthy young women. This is study enrolling both cases (women with migraine) and controls (women without migraine), with equal numbers of normal weight and obese women in each group. Participants will undergo a telephone screening and a single day in-person study visit.

Familial and Environmental Factors Behind Migraine

Migraine is a chronic neurological disease characterized by recurrent moderate to severe headaches often in association with a number of autonomic nervous system symptoms. Migraines are believed to be due to a mixture of environmental and genetic factors. About two-thirds of cases run in families. Changing hormone levels may also play a role, as migraines affect slightly more boys than girls before puberty, but about two to three times more women than men after puberty. The risk of migraines usually decreases during pregnancy. The exact mechanisms of migraine are not known. It is, however, believed to be a neurovascular disorder. The primary theory is related to increased excitability of the cerebral cortex and abnormal control of pain neurons in the trigeminal nucleus of the brainstem.

Probiotics for the Prophylaxis of Migraine

This study aims to understand the efficacy of two probiotic interventions as prophylaxes of migraine symptoms in individuals diagnosed with episodic migraine. The primary outcome measure will be migraine days per month, but secondary outcome measures such as use of analgesia, the wider impact of migraine (as assessed through the HIT-6 score) will also be assessed. Finally adverse effects will be evaluated. The study will have three arms: two arms including the two different probiotic preparations and a third placebo arm.

Integrative Migraine Pain Alleviation Through Chiropractic Therapy

This pilot study evaluates the addition of chiropractic treatment to conventional neurological care in the treatment of migraine headaches in adult women. Half of the participants will receive 10 chiropractic treatments in addition to their usual care over a 14 week period, while the other half will continue their usual medical care alone, as prescribed by their physician during that time period.

Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Associated With Mindfulness in Chronic Migraine

This study is a group controlled clinical trial. ParallelParallel study, patients aged 25-50 years, with Migraine Chronicle. Twelve sessions will be held during four mindfulness practice with four recordings (one per week). As a brainwave biomarker, the Muse, a Electroencephalogram (EEG). The investigators will use the MIDAS questionnaire, the HIT-6 Questionnaire and the FFMQ-BR. Based on the use of tDCS in patients with chronic pain, and in benefits of Mindfulness practice in these patients, the objective is to evaluate if the mindfulness-associated TCCA provides satisfactory results in the painful prophylaxis of patients with chronic migraine.

Single Ascending Dose Study to Investigate the Safety and Pharmacokinetics of XC101-D13H in Healthy Adult Subjects

This is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group single ascending dose (SAD) study. There are 4 cohorts of 8 subjects (8 active and 2 placebo) planned for evaluation under fasting conditions. One of the planned dose levels will cross over after a washout period to receive the same single dose of XC101-D13H or placebo under fed conditions.

Analysis of Vestibular Compensation Following Vestibular Neurectomy

Multiple sensory cues are typically generated by discrete events, and while they do not reach the cerebrum simultaneously, the brain can bind them temporally if they are interpreted as corresponding to a single event. The temporal binding of vestibular and non-vestibular sensory cues is poorly understood and has not been studied in detail, despite the fact that the vestibular system operates in an inherently multimodal environment. In this study, the researchers are investigating the physiology and pathophysiology of vestibular temporal binding by studying normal subjects, patients with peripheral and central vestibular dysfunction, and patients with vestibular and cochlear signals provided by prosthetic implants in the inner ear.

Acute Phase Reactions and Thrombophilia in Pediatric Patients With Migraine

Acute Migraine attacks can be related to vascular or coagulation activation. Previous studies found relative high incidence of prothrombotic events in Migraine. The present study intends to assess the coagulation system and activation in patients with Migraine during steady state phase and at the beginning of attacks and after 72 hours. A control group of patients with another acute neurologic event like convulsions will be also studied. Patients will be at pediatric age and teenagers.
