This will be a prospective, multi-center, double-blinded, randomized study designed to compare the efficacy of Conventional Radiofrequency (CRF) and the anesthetic block of the anterior sensory branches to the hip to control pain and improve function related to hip osteoarthritis.

Wright Medical Technology Metal-on-Metal 522 Post-Market Surveillance Study

This study is in response to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) call to all manufacturers with 510(k) clearance for metal-on-metal (MoM) total hip arthroplasty (THA) devices to conduct postmarket surveillance studies. MicroPort has various acetabular shells, acetabular liners, fixation screws, femoral heads, femoral stems, modular necks, and proximal bodies currently cleared for MoM indications. Together these components comprise the Wright Medical Technology (WMT) MoM THA System. The primary objective of the study is to determine the incidence of adverse local tissue reactions (ALTR) in each THA implanted with the WMT MoM THA System overall and to create cross-sectional epochs of ? 8 years and > 8 years, since implantation.

Effects of a Weight Loss Program in People With Hip Osteoarthritis

This randomised controlled trial will compare the effects of a weight loss and exercise program to exercise only on clinical outcomes in 100 people with hip osteoarthritis (OA) and overweight or obesity. MDR-G7 Freedom Constrained Liners Study

The objective of this consecutive series PMCF study is to collect data confirming safety, performance and clinical benefits of the G7 Freedom Constrained Liners when used for primary and revision total hip arthroplasty (implants and instrumentation) at 5 years follow-up. Since G7 Acetabular Cup System has only been on the market since 2015, a prospective follow-up will be necessary to obtain data for the 5 year post-surgery time-point for each patient.

RSA - ACTIS Hip Stem

The principal objective of this study is to compare mean 2-year subsidence of the ACTIS femoral stem using model-based RSA against published migration patterns for hip stems of a similar design. Secondary objectives include comparison of migration per surgical approach, quantifying changes in functional and health status of subjects following surgery, and assess occurrences of complications and adverse events.

Comparison of Two Hydroxy-apatite Coated Hip Stems

In this study, the investigators propose to randomize 80 subjects to receive either the Avenir cementless hip stem or a competing, HA-coated hip stem (Corail, DePuy-Synthes) and follow these patients for a period of 2 years post-surgery. The investigators aim to determine if the Avenir cementless hip stem has equivalent or better fixation and clinical outcomes compared to a predicate hip stem with longer clinical history.

Total Hip Replacement Performance & Assessment

This research study is focused upon assessing and optimising surgeon's performance during, and patient outcomes following, primary total hip replacement (THR) surgery. The primary research question is to determine if additional simulation training can improve the intra-operative performance of surgical trainees (Residents) during a THR, or the outcome of patients after their THR. The investigators will aim to define an 'expert' standard in performing a primary elective THR, which may be used as a benchmark when assessing surgical trainee performance; and also determine if operative surgeon performance metrics during a THR are correlated with surgical experience, or patient outcomes.

Progressive Resistance Training Compared to Neuromuscular Exercise in Patients With Hip Osteoarthritis

The primary aim of this randomized controlled trial is to investigate the efficacy of 12 weeks of progressive resistance training (PRT) compared to neuromuscular exercise (NEMEX) on functional performance in patients with hip OA measured by the 30-seconds chair stand test. Secondary aims are to investigate; the determinants of improvement in physical function following PRT or NEMEX; the effectiveness of booster sessions in prolonging the effects of the initial interventions (12 months), the cost-effectiveness of booster sessions (12 months) and changes in articular cartilage after PRT or NEMEX (12 months). We will test the hypothesis that PRT is superior to NEMEX in improving physical function measured with the 30s sit-to-stand test at 12 week follow-up.

Fit-Joint: Getting Fit for Hip or Knee Replacement

Osteoarthritis leads to reduced independence and quality of life. Total hip replacement is a successful and cost-effective surgical intervention to relieve pain and improve functioning in patients with osteoarthritis. Research has shown that preoperative health status strongly predicts outcomes including physical function and hospitalization length after hip replacement surgery. Frail patients, in particular, are at greater risk of poor postoperative outcomes and could potentially benefit from interventions targeting an improvement in their health status prior to undergoing a hip or knee replacement surgery. Partnering with the YMCA and a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare providers, this pilot trial will examine the feasibility of a multi-modal intervention for frail patients that includes a supervised exercise program, vitamin D and protein supplementation, and a medication review. The results of this feasibility study will guide the design of a future multi-centre study, which if successful, could be developed into a routine model of care that is implemented in joint replacement programs across Ontario and ultimately improving the lives of frail seniors undergoing hip or knee replacement.

REDAPT Revision Hip System With RSA

The principal objectives of the study are to evaluate early and mid-term fixation of the REDAPT revision hip stem and acetabular cup as measured by stem subsidence and proximal cup migration at 2 and 5 years post-surgery through model-based RSA. Secondary objectives include; evaluate the progression of migration between 1 and 2 years and between 2 and 5 years, assess pre- to post-surgery patient improvement in function and health status, evaluate femoral and acetabular radiolucency at 2 and 5 years, and assess patterns of stem migrate on for different revision scenarios (preservation of the trochanters and extended trochanteric osteotomy).

Defining Optimum Cup Orientation for Hip Replacements Taking Into Account the Individual's Anatomy and Movement Patterns

The purpose of this study is to investigate and determine the optimal zone for implanting the cup component (the ball that sits in the joint socket) in a total hip replacement. Enrolled participants will have a series of X-rays analyzed before surgery to identify their individual optimal zone or cup orientation. This information will be provided to the operating surgeon, who may use this information to influence the placement of the cup implant. Follow-up X-rays taken after surgery will determine if the cup is within the suggested optimal zone. Questionnaires will be completed before and after surgery, and data on complications or issues with the surgery (including incidents of dislocation) will be collected after surgery.

A Prospective Evaluation of the Cingal Injection for Hip Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis (OA) of the hip is one of the ten most disabling diseases in the developed world. Because OA gradually worsens over time, the sooner treatment is started, the more likely its impact is lessened. Hip OA is characterized by joint pain, cartilage degeneration, and an increase in disability. Multiple treatments are used to manage the degenerating hip as well as the associated pain. These include physiotherapy and rehabilitation, bracing, other walking aids, oral medications, injections, and in severe cases, surgery. Prior research has shown that injection of hyaluronic acid (HA) and corticosteroids can slow down OA degradation. This study will look at the effects of injecting Cingal into the hip, which expands on its current approved use in the treatment of knee OA.

The Kaia Hip and Knee Pain Intervention for Self-management of the Pain in Patients With Osteoarthritis.

The study intervention provides an innovative way of making exercise training and other recommended lifestyle modifications as accessible as possible for knee and hip OA participants by introducing a home-based exercise training program with a motion track feedback technology. Self-management of the pain for the patients suffering osteoarthritis, in the form of lifestyle modification, implementation of coping strategies and exercise is part of recommendations of recent international guidelines such as those by the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI). Cost and resource constraints typically limit the access to these recommended therapies. Moreover, the study intervention is focused on maintaining and adapting everyday physical activity, as required, in comparison to the control group.

H1 Hip Resurfacing Arthroplasty

This is a prospective, non-randomized, consecutive series, multicentre, observational study to evaluate the clinical outcome of ceramic-on- ceramic hip resurfacing arthroplasty using the ceramic, non-porous, non-cemented H1 Hip Resurfacing Arthroplasty. It includes a safety study followed by an efficacy study. Patients will be followed up for 10-years postoperatively. The primary aim is to confirm the safety of the H1 hip resurfacing prosthesis by demonstrating non-inferiority of the H1 device in terms of survivorship. The secondary is to evaluate superiority of the ceramic-on-ceramic H1 hip resurfacing prosthesis compared to Metal-on-Metal (MoM) hip resurfacing in terms of absence of metal ion release.The primary end point is revision for any reason.

Opioid-free Total Hip Arthroplasty

The primary objective of investigators' proposed study is to demonstrate that the following two cohorts undergoing total hip arthroplasty will have equivalent visual analog scale (VAS) scores up to 3 months post-operatively: one that is administered a modified multimodal analgesic pathway without opioids and the other administered the current standard multimodal analgesic pathway used at Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital (which includes opioids). The secondary objective is to demonstrate that these cohorts will also have equivalent functional outcomes as determined by both objective measures (such as hip range of motion) and patient-reported outcome measures, such as the Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS) and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) activity score.
