Cardiovascular Effects of Exposure to Wood Smoke in Healthy Human Adults

Purpose: The study is designed to investigate cardiovascular effects of young healthy human subjects exposed to wood smoke. Participants: Approximately 80 young (18-35 years old) healthy subjects to complete. Procedure (methods): After consenting to participate in the study, subjects will undergo exposures over consecutive days, once to filtered air alone and once to air containing 500 µg/m^3 of wood smoke. Each exposure will be 2 hours long with alternating 15 min of mild exercise (cycle ergometer) and rest . The exercise level will be adjusted to achieve 12 L/min/m^2 minute ventilation. Induced sputum samples will be collected 4 hours post exposure.

The Embedded Participant During High-fidelity Simulation

Simulation in medicine is a powerful and effective teaching tool that has become essential for the training of students and health professionals. In this context, simulation instructor training have been implemented in recent years, where many subjects are addressed, such as the main principles of pedagogy, the integration of simulation, the construction of a scenario, briefing and debriefing. However, scenario facilitation, in particular the role of the embedded participant (EP), is only vaguely discussed. The EP of a high-fidelity simulation session plays a very important role in driving the scenario. Indeed, he/she guides the learner in order to achieve all the educational objectives set by the main instructor of the scenario. He/she also manages unexpected behavior and possible technical issues that may arise. Finally, the EP supervises the physical and psychological risks inherent in the simulation in order to maintain a safe environment. All of these key roles suggest that the EP can influence the performance of the learners. Little is known about the relationship between Facilitation and Learner Performance. In this observational study, investigators aim to explore the influence of the embedded participant on learners' technical and non-technical performances during high-fidelity simulation by analysing previously recorded sessions.

Normal Brain Imaging Database for Brain Disorder Studies

Healthy volunteers will be recruited. All subjects will be tested a battery of neuropsychological tests, then undergo fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). During the PET and MRI, they will be stimulated with transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) for 15 minutes. A third of subjects will receive real tDCS on the left prefrontal cortex, a third on the right prefrontal cortex, and the other third will receive sham tDCS.

Phase 2B Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of PB2452 in Reversal of Ticagrelor in Subjects Aged 50-80 Years Old

This phase 2B study is a multi-center, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. The study is designed to evaluate the efficacy of PB2452 in reversing the anti-platelet effects of ticagrelor as part of a dual antiplatelet regimen and to evaluate the safety and tolerability of PB2452 in subjects aged 50-80 years old. Approximately 200 subjects between 50-80 years old will be enrolled in the US or other countries at the discretion of the Sponsor across 5-15 sites. The subjects will be randomized at a ratio of 3:1 receiving either the PB2452 investigational study drug or placebo. Hence, a total of approximately 150 subjects will be receiving PB2452 and approximately 50 subjects will be receiving placebo.

Maternal Obesity and Offspring Neurodevelopment

Our goals are to characterize the effects of maternal obesity during pregnancy on infant brain development, reveal the neurodevelopmental consequences, and identify possible mechanisms causing these effects. Our overall hypothesis is that maternal obesity during pregnancy exposes the fetus to an inflammatory environment that affects infant brain structural and functional development and consequently neurodevelopmental outcomes. To test this hypothesis, the investigators will recruit normal-weight and obese pregnant women, examine inflammatory markers associated with obese pregnancy, and correlate them with offspring's brain development evaluated using quantitative MRI methods and outcomes evaluated using neurodevelopmental tests.
