Solifenacin Compared to Clonidine for Reducing Hot Flashes Among Breast Cancer Patients

Hot flashes present a considerable problem for many breast cancer patients; these symptoms may be intensified by hormonal therapies, such as aromatase inhibitors or tamoxifen. This study examines the value of solifenacin (a muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist) in reducing hot flashes, compared with clonidine (a medication often used for treating hot flashes).

Cohort Study of Prospective Validation of Predictive Factors and Biological Imaging of Response to Bevacizumab and Paclitaxel in Patients With Metastatic Breast Cancer

Bevacizumab plus chemotherapy improves response rates and prolongs PFS when used as first- and second-line therapy for advanced breast cancer. However, bevacizumab has not improved OS in the individual studies currently reported. In Europe, EMA has maintained its indication associated with weekly paclitaxel in first line metastatic breast cancer and more recently with capecitabine based on RIBBON 1 trial's results. The identification of patient subsets that receive the most clinical benefit would enable more specific treatment administration of bevacizumab and allow patients unlikely to benefit the opportunity to seek other treatment modalities. Unfortunately, despite efforts to identify patient subsets with a differential benefit from bevacizumab, no validated biomarkers have been defined. The Avastin cohort is a unique opportunity to investigate various biological and imaging parameters which could be related to clinical benefit of the combination of bevacizumab and weekly paclitaxel in first line metastatic breast cancer in a homogeneously treated population in French cancer centers. This trial will gather the expertise of several translational research platforms of different cancer centers from the UNICANCER consortium.

Detection and Prevention of Anthracycline-Related Cardiac Toxicity With Concurrent Simvastatin

Doxorubicin (Adriamycin), one of the drugs commonly used for the treatment of breast cancer, is in a class of medications called anthracyclines. Anthracyclines may cause heart damage that can lead to weakening of the heart muscle. This heart damage may happen right away or may occur many years after the anthracycline is given Simvastatin is an oral medication approved by the FDA to lower cholesterol. Simvastatin is in a class of medications called statins. Some research has shown that statins may prevent heart damage that can be caused by anthracyclines like Doxorubicin (Adriamycin). The purpose of this study is to determine if taking simvastatin while receiving the chemotherapy Doxorubicin (Adriamycin) will minimize damage to the heart. This study is for women who will be receiving the anthracycline doxorubicin (Adriamycin) as part of their breast cancer treatment.

Assessment of Paclitaxel-Induced Neuropathy

The purpose of this study is to collect clinical data, blood samples, and self reported symptoms from patients that experience unusually severe neuropathy after treatment with paclitaxel. This data will be used to develop predictive markers for neuropathy. Blood samples will be used to create induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells and eventually artificial nerve cells to be used to study neuropathy in the lab.

Surgical and Oncologic Outcomes After Robotic Nipple Sparing Mastectomy and Immediate Reconstruction

Robotic mastectomy with immediate reconstruction was introduced by Toesca et al. in 2015. Since then, several studies have reported the safety and feasibility of robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. However, most studies were conducted by single centers and had small samples. Furthermore, there is a lack of studies comparing surgical and oncologic outcomes between robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy and conventional nipple-sparing mastectomy. For this reason, this study evaluates surgical and oncologic outcomes of robotic nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction using international multi-center data.

Developing New Educational Materials About Genetic Testing for a Diverse Group of Cancer Patients

Genetic testing is a type of test that detects changes to the genes-the DNA instructions that are passed on from the mother and father. The results of a genetic test can confirm whether the participant has a genetic disorder, which is a disease caused in whole or in part by changes to the genes. Genetic testing can also help determine a person's chance of getting or passing on a genetic disorder. Genetic tests use a sample of blood, hair, skin, or other tissue, and they can look at one gene or multiple genes at the same time. Genetic testing may change the options for treating people with certain types of cancer. For example, some medications are more helpful for the treatment of cancer in people with certain gene changes (mutations). The researchers are doing this study to develop new educational materials about genetic testing for people who speak different languages and have diverse cultural and educational backgrounds. During the study, the staff will interview participants with diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and ask them to review a sample of the educational materials that have been developed so far. Participants will give their opinions on these materials, and the researchers will use participants' feedback to improve the materials.

The Efficacy and Safety of Neoadjuvant Trastuzumab Plus Taxane With and Without Pertuzumab Therapy

This study is a Non-Interventional Study (NIS) with secondary data usage. It is designed as a multi-center retrospective cohort study in which the data of adult locally advanced HER2-positive breast cancer patients, who are treated with as neoadjuvant therapy, who underwent breast surgery in participating centers, were taken from hospital records. The source population is academic or community oncology centers treating patients with breast cancer from Turkey. The study population is planned to be the subgroup of breast cancer patients, who are treated with trastuzumab plus taxane with or without pertuzumab as neoadjuvant therapy, and underwent breast surgery at the participating centers. The study is anticipated to include approximately 1500 patients from 20 sites.
